2 San Antonio officers critically shot near downtown

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A crime prevention patrol near downtown Thursday reportedly turned into a shootout that left two San Antonio police officers critically wounded and one suspect dead.

Chief William McManus said Thursday evening that one officer who was shot in the face is in “grave, grave condition” and is not expected to survive. The other remains in critical condition but is expected to live.

Around 3:15 p.m., the officers reportedly made direct contact with two suspects on the street near the intersection of Evergreen and Howard.

Man killed in alleged armed robbery attempt

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Police said a 35-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon after he was shot when he allegedly tried to rob a man at knifepoint during a negotiation over the sale of tire rims.

Jamie Garcia died from a gunshot wound to the chest Wednesday after an altercation escalated to shooting.

Emergency personnel responded at about 12:41 p.m. Wednesday to a motel in the 2400 block of Northwest Loop 410.

Police said Garcia and another man were negotiating a sale of tire rims through Facebook and that the reportedly two met.

4 teens accused of 50+ Stone Oak car burglaries

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Four teenagers and a 26-year-old were accused of carrying out more than 50 car burglaries this week in Stone Oak, as well as an attempted jewelry heist that occurred early Friday.

Paul Villarreal, 26, Jessie McLeod, 18, Jorge Luna, 18, Hector Gomez-Cisneros, 17 and an unidentified juvenile reportedly face a slew of charges including burglary of a building, criminal trespassing and theft of a vehicle.

Police said the group has been accused of breaking into at least 50 cars parked in driveways in the area of Wilderness Oaks and Prospect Hill, between Blanco and Hardy Oak. They allegedly used a pry bar to bend door frames and break windows.

Officer killed alleged hostage taker

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Police reportedly shot and killed a 33-year-old alleged gunman who held a 21-year-old woman at gunpoint for several days in a Northeast Side apartment complex.

The woman repeatedly thanked and hugged responding officers later.

A police report states the woman also had a large welt just behind her ear that was a result of being struck in the head by the suspect using an object so hard she lost consciousness.

Police learned a woman was being held against her will for several days at the Whispering Heights apartments in the 200 block of Rainbow Drive, just off Austin Highway near Terrell Hills.

Man arrested after Northeast Side chase, standoff

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A 32-year-old San Antonio man was arrested in a Northwest Side home after a chase with officers on Friday.

Stephen Larson is charged with evading arrest, criminal trespass and discharging a firearm in a municipal population.

Authorities said he also turned out to be wanted on two felony warrants, including assault of a public servant and theft of a vehicle between $15,000 and $20,000.

SAPD Chief William McManus said officers were investigating reports of a suspicious person about 6 p.m. near Liberty Bell Street and Independence Avenue when they saw a man standing outside.

Police arrest man for badly beating girl

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning after police were alerted to a badly beaten 4-year-old girl at a home in Northeast San Antonio.

Ray Garcia Jr., 22

News reports say Ray Garcia Jr. was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on a charge of injury to a child/serious bodily injury. He is being held on $30,000 bail.

San Antonio Police Department said a witness who visited the home reportedly alerted authorities and provided police with enough information to learn the child’s whereabouts.

Man arrested for fatally shooting roommate

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — News report states San Antonio police arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of his roommate at a North Side apartment Tuesday morning after the victim asked the alleged shooter for a ride to work.

According to SAPD Chief William McManus, the victim knocked on his roommate’s bedroom door around 8:30 a.m. in a second-story apartment in the 6700 block of Babcock Road where the men lived.
