Man with distinct tattoo arrested in restaurant robberies

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A 19-year-old man with a distinct neck tattoo suspected in a string of restaurant robberies was arrested after a chase Friday afternoon on the Southeast Side.

Officer Douglas Greene, a San Antonio Police Department spokesman, said Steven Joyner was apprehended on a warrant for aggravated robbery and could face more charges.

As he was being led by police to a vehicle heading to jail from the police station at 555 Academic Court, he was asked by media if he admitted to the robbery, to which he replied “Hell, naw, man.”

Armed men allegedly robbed diamond store at South Park Mall

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Three suspects were sought after they allegedly robbed a diamond store at South Park Mall Friday before they fled south on the Interstate 35 access road.

Around 11:15 a.m., officers received a robbery report from the Exotic Diamonds store at the mall, located in the 2100 block of Southwest Military Drive.

The three suspects, who are Hispanic men, were armed with handguns and dressed in all black, according to Officer Douglas Greene, a spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department.

The suspects allegedly ordered the jewelry store employees to get on the ground and robbed the store.

Man charged with capital murder in motel slaying

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A 26-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon after being accused of fatally shooting a man in the doorway of his motel room Saturday on the West Side.

Jon Kyle Brock faces a charge of capital murder in the death of Kerry Troy Patrick, 26, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Officer Douglas Greene, a San Antonio Police Department spokesman, said police are pressing the capital murder charge because items were stolen from Patrick’s room during the incident.

Patrick was shot at about 5 p.m. on the second floor of the InTown Suites, 7490 Culebra Road, investigators said Saturday. He died at the scene, police said.

Man charged with capital murder in teen girl’s death

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A news release on Thursday states that a 28-year-old San Antonio man jailed in a sexual assault case has been charged with capital murder in the death of a teenage girl who was found dead in December.

Sgt. Javier Salazar said authorities were able to secure an arrest warrant and take Johnny Avalos into custody April 22 in the death of Natalie Chavez, 15, who was found naked and strangled beneath a bridge at Apache Creek and Vera Cruz Street around 10 a.m. Dec. 18.

Man shot dead at Grand Hyatt

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A man, believed to be in his mid- to late 30s was found shot to death at a downtown hotel Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, police and EMS squads responded to the Grand Hyatt San Antonio at about 1 p.m. after the man was shot by another hotel guest on the sixth floor. Police Chief William McManus arrived shortly at the scene.

The police chief said the incident was “very out of the normal” for a hotel he called “very safe.”
