Texas surgeon killed in apparent murder-suicide

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A prominent transplant surgeon at Houston Methodist Hospital was reportedly killed by her husband in an apparent murder-suicide this weekend.

Dr. Sherilyn Gordon-Burroughs was found dead Sunday at her home near the Brazos River in central Fort Bend County, according to county officials on Monday.

Her husband Daniel Burroughs, 60, reportedly shot himself in the head with a shotgun as a SWAT team entered the premises.

“Sherilyn was a gifted surgeon and mentor to residents, medical students and everyone on staff,” said Methodist President Dr. Marc Boom on Monday.

Teen killed in overnight shooting at South Side home

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Police said a 19-year-old man reportedly died Sunday night in a shooting at a South Side home, with the suspect still on the loose.

San Antonio Police Department officers at the scene said Mario Austin Covarrubias was found shot to death at about 10:22 p.m. inside a house in the 900 block of Grosvenor Street.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office released the victim’s identity Monday afternoon, adding that he died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.

Lufkin teen arrested in sex assault of young girl

LUFKIN, Texas — Court documents state on Monday that a 17-year-old Lufkin man was arrested this month for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl and posting footage of the crime on his Snapchat account.

The Angelina County District Attorney’s Office state that Oscar Alamillo Solis faces a third-degree felony charge of possession of child pornography and a first-degree felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

A 15-year-old girl reportedly contacted the Fairview Police Department after seeing “disturbing images and videos” on Solis’ Snapchat account. The department then looked into the case.

Cleveland man shot outside West Side bar

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 23-year-old Cleveland man was shot three times after an early-morning shooting outside a West Side bar.

The victim, who underwent surgery, reportedly suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen, hand and foot.

The incident reportedly began about 1:30 a.m. inside R.O.C. Bar Cleveland, located at Western Avenue and West 105th Street in the city’s Cudell neighborhood.

Witnesses said a fight broke out between the gunshot victim and several other men near the bar’s pool table.

Someone reportedly sprayed pepper spray into the air during the fight, prompting security guards to force the group outside.

Capital murder suspect allegedly traded cars with mom to avoid arrest

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Court documents state a 22-year-old capital murder suspect allegedly traded vehicles with his mother in an effort to conceal his vehicle from police.

Kenton Maurice Haynes was arrested Wednesday after fleeing deputies at the detention center.

Haynes faces a capital murder charge for his role in the shooting death of 29-year-old Renard Smith, who was shot in the back of the head on Oct. 25 outside the Right Choice Food Mart at 8011 Midcrown Drive.

Man arrested in deadly Converse stabbing

CONVERSE, Texas – Police reportedly arrested a 23-year-old man Thursday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Converse.

Elvin Armas was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a charge of murder.

An arrest affidavit states Armas met with the woman to have sex in exchange for money.

The two reportedly arranged to meet early Thursday via text at the Towne East Village Apartments in the 9000 block of West Farm to Market Road 78.

Lake Travis double homicide suspect killed himself after police chase

LAKE TRAVIS, Texas – Officials said a 54-year-old double homicide suspect in a Lake Travis neighborhood reportedly killed himself Friday after a standoff with police in Mississippi.

Travis County sheriff’s officials said Randall Burrows shot himself in the head just outside of Summit, Mississippi, after a short chase with Mississippi highway patrol.

He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead soon after 5 p.m., roughly 15 minutes after the U.S. Marshals had found him and the chase began, according to Travis County sheriff’s Capt. Craig Smith.

Cleveland police caught attempted ATM theft suspect

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Authorities reportedly arrested two people who allegedly smashed a U-Haul truck through a pharmacy in an attempt to rob early Tuesday.

Police said a 27-year-old man and his 18-year-old accomplice were arrested after police followed footsteps in the snow and found one of the suspects hiding in a trash can and the other nearby.

Cleveland Police Second District Commander Thomas Stacho said the two were arrested following the 4 a.m. failed smash-and-grab robbery at the CVS pharmacy on Pearl Road and Memphis Avenue.

Driver of stolen van hit woman in parked car

AUSTIN, Texas – The driver of a stolen van allegedly hit a woman twice while she was sitting in her vehicle Wednesday.

Rocky Wayne Huff, 26, of Manor, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The affidavit said the woman who was injured reportedly told police she had pain in one of her shoulders.

The incident reportedly began when authorities in Round Rock “asked Austin police for help in finding a stolen 2017 Dodge van they had tracked to Austin.”

Round Rock man allegedly ‘intended to shoot officers’

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Round Rock police reportedly arrested a 35-year-old man who told them he intended to shoot them Sunday.

James Brown was charged with two counts of assault on a public servant, public intoxication and possession of marijuana.

An arrest affidavit said Brown’s father called police at 6:04 p.m. Sunday asking them to arrest his son because he believed his son was going to kill him.

The affidavit said police knew Brown had a shotgun but did not know if he was armed when officers arrived outside a house in the 600 block of Sweetgum Lane.
