Summer Camp Background Checks Not Nationwide

News Video AUSTIN (KXAN) – According to the American Camp Association, state background checks are mandatory for anyone dealing with children in summer camps, but federal background checks are not. That’s including a tightening of the rules in an effort to make it safer to send kids to camp.

Some organizations still take additional measures to ensure safety. The YMCA runs 20 summer camps in Travis and Hays counties.

Spokesman Andrew Wiggins with the YMCA told KXAN it goes a step further.

Mark smashed his ear to the phone. Even in the crowded cafeteria, he didn’t want
anyone else to hear what his mom was asking. Phone calls between parents and
campers weren’t allowed, but Mark had sent a letter to his mom saying he wanted

immediately. On the other end of the line, Kelly tried to make out Mark’s voice
over the clatter in the Camp La Junta cafeteria. She was across the state in
Houston, but she was ready to get in the car — she wouldn’t even stop to pack a
bag — if her 11-year-old son confirmed her suspicion.

Former Softball Coach Guilty In Teen Rape Case

DAYTON, Ohio — Reports say that a former softball coach for youth was found guilty in a rape case concerning a 13-year-old girl during the time he was a coach.

Other news media outlet reported that the former coach started a sexual relationship with the thirteen-year-old girl and it continued until she is an adult.

The rape case that he was found guilty happened when he was still a softball coach in New Lebanon. He was coaching a third and fourth-grader softball team at that time. It was in 2008 until 2011 when he coached the team, according to the reports.

Man Arrested In Bus Stop Rape

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The law enforcement officials in Columbus say that they were able to arrest the man who is responsible for sexually assaulting a woman who was waiting for a bus on Monday.

Reports indicated that the 27-year-old single mom was carrying her 3-year-old child when the man who is believed to be homeless raped her.

Other news media outlet reported that the woman was so afraid after the incident that the suspect might look for her and will kill her and her child.

Man Attacks Impaired Woman; Man Charged In SWAT Standoff

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio — A man is arrested after attacking an impaired woman and sexually assaulted her. Another man was arrested and charged after a standoff with the SWAT, according to the reports.

The first incident took place in Hamilton County where a man is now facing a charged with gross sexual imposition. The victim and the attacker were both employees of the Easter Seals.

The alleged attack took place in a bus. The surveillance video from the bus was obtained by the investigators and it appears that there was sexual contact. The man who attacked the impaired woman in the bus is identified as Raymond Hope. An arraignment was held Tuesday.

Avon Lake woman pleads guilty For sex and Drug Trafficking

CLEVELAND, Ohio – An Avon Lake woman who helped run an online prostitution from a house that is rented in Elyria pleaded guilty this morning to conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking and drug trafficking.

The Avon Lake woman is identified as twenty-three-year-old Ashley Onysko. She is accused of helping the 37-year-old Jeremy Mack from Elyria in running an online prostitution, according to the reports.

Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cleveland office indicated that the incident starts in a drug deal. The man would sell the victims heroin and cocaine and would later offer to have sex with the women. He can do this because the women owed him money from the drugs that they used.

Former Deputy Guilty Of Raping 5-Year-Old

MARION, Ohio – Reports say that a former deputy from Marion County Sheriff’s Office and corrections officer was guilty of raping a five-year-old child in Marion County.

Other news media outlet reported that the man also raped other children who were in his care. He was babysitting children when he raped the children. His girlfriend’s run a babysitting business and when she was not available, it was entrusted to him.

The man who was convicted is identified as 28-year-old Randy N. Spencer. Ohio Attorney General’s office said that the man was found guilty of four counts of rape, all first-degree felonies.

Avon Lake, Elyria duo charged with Human Trafficking

LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio – A Lorain County man and woman now faces human trafficking charges after allegedly forcing a girl and a woman to have sex for cash.

Other news media outlet reported that the woman who was arrested was an Avon Lake woman who worked for the Elyria man as a facilitator. She facilitates women and men to have sex. It was her birthday when she was arrested.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the United States Attorney Steve Dettelbach identified the two accused duo as thirty-seven-year-old Jeremy Mack and twenty-three-year-old Ashley Onysko.

Top Air Force Officer Accused Of Sexual Abuse

FAIRFIELD, Ohio – A top Air Force officer who is a native of Fairfield, Ohio is in the center of an investigation after being accused of sexual abuse.

The top Air Force official who is in the center of controversy is forty-one-year-old Lt. Col. Jeffrey R. Krusinski. He is part of the Pentagon as chief of the Air Force Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program.

Krusinski was immediately removed from the service after the allegations of sexual abuse. He was in the sexual abuse prevention for two months. He is accused of groping a woman at a parking lot in Arlington, Virginia, according to the reports.
