LONG BEACH, California – A California man convicted of attacking six women has been sentenced to 11 life terms, plus 433 years in prison.

The 45 year old Charles Juan Proctor was also ordered to pay $58,000 in medical expenses for two women whose necks were slit And another $10,000 to states victims’ restitution fund. The twenty-two (22) counts of attempted murder, mayhem, robbery and other charges of Proctor’s conviction came out last August 13, 2010.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A Westwood man charged last year with knocking out his 1-year-old’s teeth was acquitted Wednesday by a Hamilton County jury.

The jury, before Visiting Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas Nurre, found Jasmin Standifer, 24, not guilty.

Standifer was arrested following a June 2, 2009, incident where he was accused of forcing his daughter to drink milk from a sippy cup.

He then was accused of hitting her in the mouth as she drank from the cup, knocking out her teeth and causing her to be hospitalized. He was charged with child endangering that carried a maximum prison sentence of eight years.

Defense attorney Carl Lewis said the child has no tears or cuts on the lips or gums.

Lewis’ defense was that the child’s teeth fell out due to nutritional deficiencies.

CINCINNATI, Ohio – A South Fairmount man is being held on a $100,000 bond after members of the strike force apprehension team found him and arrested him on abduction and felonious assault charges on Tuesday.

Brandon Braley, 24, who lives with his grandmother, is accused of restraining the mother of his child against her will for more than six hours and assaulting her with a knife each time she tried to escape on July 12.

ATLANTA, Georgia — Atlanta police arrested a 31-year-old man accused of raping a minor, Officer James Polite said Tuesday night.

Damon Burton was taken into custody in the 3500 block of Pine Forest Drive at 8:30 p.m., Polite said. He was transported to the Fulton County jail.

No further details about the arrest were released.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — A South Florida drum teacher will be sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl for more than a year during her weekly music lesson.

Sandeep Munshi was convicted last month of six felony counts involving the girl and is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday.

His student testified she was afraid to come forward sooner because she worried no one would believe her story about the renowned music teacher.

Munshi, a traditional Indian and Middle Eastern drummer, rejected a plea offer that would have sent him to prison for 15 years.

ORLANDO, Florida – New charges have been brought that could keep the most notorious rapist in Central Florida’s history in prison for the rest of his life.

The so-called Malibu Rapist terrorized the city for years with a slew of attacks that started in the 1980s in a subdivision west of Ivey Lane that was called Malibu Homes.

The Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office has filed three new charges against George W. Girtman, who was set to be released from prison next June.

Girtman, a twice-convicted rapist serving a 45-year term in state prison, is now facing charges of sexual battery with a deadly weapon, burglary of a dwelling and robbery, according to prosecutors. The charges stem from a 1990 cold case that was solved in November after new DNA technology linked Girtman to the attack.

In this most recent case, Girtman, now 56, is accused of breaking into a woman’s home in 1990, putting a knife to her throat and raping her in the middle of the night. After the rape, the attacker stole money from the victim and threatened to kill her if she called the police.

But the rape survivor, “Mary,” called police that night and kept following up with them for years, hoping for a break in the unsolved case.

In November, Orlando homicide Detective Michael Moreschi gave her the news she had been waiting for: a National Institute of Justice grant had enabled police to retest DNA from her case and others. When retesting the evidence in Mary’s case, police found a match to Girtman’s unique DNA profile. Police sent the case to the State Attorney’s Office and in late June, prosecutors charged Girtman with the crimes. He was transferred to the Orange County Jail on Monday afternoon.

“I’m relieved. I’m happy and just don’t want him back out on the street to hurt anybody else,” said Mary, whose real name is not being used because she is the victim of a sexual attack. “It’s been a long time coming and justice is here.”

If Girtman is convicted in Mary’s case, he could be sentenced to life in prison.

But if he is acquitted, he could be a free man in less than a year. Though Girtman is currently serving a 45-year sentence at the Polk Correctional Institution, old laws mandated that sentence be cut in half, and he shaved time off for good behavior. That sentence is set to expire in June.

Mary, who has lived with the memory of that brutal night for 20 years, said if called by prosecutors, she will face the man accused of her rape in court.

“I’m going to testify,” Mary said. “I’ve gotten strong enough, and I can face anything and go on.”

More than 100 attacks

The Malibu Rapist began terrorizing women — and sometimes children — in Orlando in the summer of 1985.

A 12-year-old girl was pulled from her bed and attacked in her backyard. A woman was raped in front of her daughter. Those attacks and others frustrated investigators and terrified residents in the Malibu Homes subdivision and the surrounding neighborhoods.

As many as 100 rapes in about six years were linked to the attacker.

Police urged residents to secure their homes and report suspicious behavior. Single women in their late 20s or early 30s who lived alone or with small children were targeted, police said.

Mary, who was in her 30s and living alone, fit the rapist’s victim profile, but she never thought she would be attacked, she said. Then, on Easter weekend in 1990, she heard a loud noise as she was drifting off to sleep. The attacker covered her face, tied her up with a scarf and raped her.

After the attack, he stole some money off her dresser and threatened to kill her if she called police. Still, she reported the crime immediately.

Detectives caught a break in the Malibu Rapist cases Jan. 9, 1991, when Girtman was arrested for breaking into another woman’s home nearby. Dispatchers received a 911 call from a woman who saw a man prying open the side door of her neighbor’s house. That neighbor was a single woman with three young children.

Following his 1991 arrest, investigators tested 13 cases for DNA and Girtman’s profile matched all of them, but Mary’s case wasn’t among the batch tested. In 1994, Girtman pleaded no contest to six counts of sexual battery and was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

It was the second time Girtman had been convicted of rape. A Seminole County jury found him guilty of breaking into an apartment in Fern Park in 1976 and attacking a 29-year-old secretary as she held her screaming 2-year-old son. After he served just seven years of the 45-year sentence levied in that attack, a parole board released him in 1984.

The Malibu Rapist attacks in Orlando began the following summer.

Former Orlando police Sgt. Bob Beal supervised much of the Malibu investigation and said Monday he was glad to hear new charges had been filed against Girtman.

“Society is better served if he’s not out,” Beal said.

A week before his house arrest comes to an end, the New York Post is reporting that Palm Beach billionaire Jeffrey Epstein plans to move to struggling Arab boomtown Dubai.

The Post quotes an unnamed source who says Epstein, 57, is planning the move to the city-state business hub now that he has settled all civil suits against him by women who allege sexual contact with him when they were underage.

Dubai, one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates, is south of the Persian Gulf and is the second largest emirate by area, after Abu Dhabi.

Epstein has been serving one year of house arrest at his mansion on El Brillo Way; the house arrest is scheduled to end July 21. Before beginning his probation, Epstein served 13 months of his 18-month sentence on charges of soliciting prostitution and procuring a minor for prostitution. He is now registered as a lifelong sex offender.

Meanwhile, he has paid confidential settlements to more than two dozen women locally who claim Epstein sexually abused them as minors.

Man Linked To 4 Rapes In Palm Beach County Since April 2009

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida —

Authorities have released new information and a surveillance video showing a serial rapist who was featured on “America’s Most Wanted” this weekend.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the man is believed to be behind four rape cases reported since April 2009.

Investigators Monday also released surveillance video from April 9, 2009 — the day of the first attack. The video was recorded by a security camera on First Street and Old Dixie Highway in Jupiter. It shows the victim and man smoking a cigarette before walking out of frame. Investigators said the rape happened just seconds after the two walked away from the camera’s view.

“We understand that the video is not perfect and it’s not exceptionally clear, but if someone can take a look at it and maybe recognize the gait in the walk or maybe how this suspect is walking as he approaches the victim,” Sgt. Mark Jolly said.

Jolly said the man attacked his victims in areas where he could have been seen.

The second attack occurred July 24, 2009, in Palm Springs. Investigators said the man forced his way into a woman’s home and raped her.

In the third attack Aug. 7 in West Palm Beach, investigators said the man raped a woman who was sitting on her front porch. During “America’s Most Wanted,” the woman’s daughter recounted how she found her mother laying on the ground in her yard following the attack.

The fourth attack happened Jan. 16 in Lake Worth at the intersection of Lake Worth Boulevard and Congress Avenue.

Investigators said the man has bitten some of the victims.

“Our fear is that he’ll either strike again or we may have other victims out there that we don’t know about,” Jolly said.

A composite sketch of the man was previously released. He is described as a Hispanic man between 5 foot 4 inches and 5 foot 7 inches tall.

There is a $3,000 reward being offered for information leading to an arrest.

WEBSTER, Texas — DNA evidence has identified a suspect in the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in southeast Houston.

Kenneth Ray Pool, 63, is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

On July 12, 2006, the 12-year-old victim was kidnapped from her home in the 15000 block of Old Galveston Road.

Investigators say the unknown male suspect posed as a law enforcement officer.

The victim, her face and hands bound, was taken to an unknown location and sexually assaulted. She was later released in the 3800 block of Red Bluff in Pasadena.

DNA evidence from the scene was submitted to the Combined DNA Index System and identified Poole as a suspect.

Pool is already serving a 30-year prison sentence in another case.
