NEW YORK, New York – A cruel robber pounced on a teenage jogger in Riverside Park Monday morning and bashed her headfirst into a wall, knocking her unconscious and causing serious injury.
All that harm, just to steal her iPod, police said Tuesday.
Since the 19-year-old victim has no memory of the horrific attack, cops are looking to speak to witnesses or anyone who was in the area at the time in hopes of developing a description of the suspect.
The victim, who lives in Manhattan but does not attend Columbia University, crossed paths with the mugger about 6 a.m. Monday in Riverside Park, near the tennis courts at W. 120th St., police said.
His vicious shove sent her hurtling into the wall, and she struck her head, losing consciousness immediately.
She was still unconscious a short time later when a passerby found her slumped over on a park bench nearby and called 911, police said.
She was rushed by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was in serious but stable condition last night, police said.
She suffered bleeding on the brain, a fractured cheek bone and cuts to her face, head and neck, police said.
Anyone with information for police can make an anonymous call to the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers tipline at (800) 577-TIPS.
