SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Police said a driver was killed and his two passengers were hospitalized following a road rage shooting early Wednesday on the West Side.

Police said the two drivers involved in the road rage dispute were headed westbound in the 2700 block of Castroville Road around 1:25 a.m. when the shooting began.

A preliminary police report states a suspect in a white Jeep SUV opened fire, striking all three passengers in the other car.

The 23-year-old driver was fatally struck, and his passengers, two men aged 18 and 22, were critically injured. Police arrived to the scene of the shooting to find all three victims still inside their car.

The 18-year-old victim was able to inform officers of what had occurred prior to the shooting and provide them with a description of the shooter’s vehicle.

Authorities pronounced the driver dead at the scene and took the two passengers to University Hospital. They are expected to survive.

The gunman has yet to be arrested. Police said he was last seen fleeing the scene in the white SUV.

In an unrelated incident,  a man was arrested on Tuesday in the alleged fatal shooting of another man in a Northeast Side home over the weekend.

San Antonio police said Phillip Rizzuto, 23, is charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Robert Rushing.

SAPD spokesman Carlos Ortiz said Rizzuto was arrested in the 100 block Porter by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

Ortiz said investigators knew Rizzuto was a suspect some time after they found Rushing dead at about 5:15 a.m. Sunday in the 16000 block of Crested Butte.

Police at the scene said Rushing and his girlfriend were inside a residence when a woman, whom police said the couple knew, came over to drop off her cat.

The girlfriend told officers she heard a gunshot after leaving the room to let her boyfriend and the woman speak.

Officers said the girlfriend ran out of the home to find her boyfriend had been shot in the head.
