COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Officials said a 19-year-old Bryan native has been killed after he was shot Saturday afternoon during an apparent robbery attempt in College Station.

Court documents say Kolten Orlen Howell died Saturday after a struggle over a gun.

College Station police said officers were called to the 1800 block of Sara Drive at 3:20 p.m. Saturday on a gunshot call.

Authorities arrived within four minutes of the call and secured a home on Sara Drive where the shooting occurred.

Additional officers responded to an area hospital, where Howell had been taken. Howell was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

Michael Jaquet Comeaux, 20, of College Station, was charged Sunday with aggravated robbery in connection with the shooting.

Investigators said Comeaux was one of four men at Howell’s home when the shooting occurred Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses at the home told police they believed the men intended to rob them. One of the men had a gun, and another got a gun that was already at the home, according to the documents.

Police said Howell and the man began to fight over the gun and it went off, striking Howell.

The men left in a vehicle while the witnesses were administering first aid and more shots were fired at the residence as the car was driving away, according to the police report.

Officers reportedly linked Comeaux to the vehicle, and he admitted during a police interview to leaving the home with three other men.

Comeaux reportedly told a detective he was in the doorway of the home when he heard gunshots and ran back to the car.

Comeaux remained in the Brazos County Jail Monday night with his bail set at $250,000. No other arrests have been reported in the case.
