FORT WORTH, Texas — Authorities say a woman was found shot to death Tuesday morning in a grassy area outside the wall of a gated neighborhood in southwest Fort Worth.

Police said the death of the victim, who was described as a white female in her mid-30s, is being investigated as a homicide. Her name has not been released by authorities, who have disclosed few details about the case.

Police said officers reportedly found  the woman’s topless body in the 4900 block of Bellaire Drive South at the corner of Ranch View Road in the leafy Overton Woods neighborhood after a call at about 5:30 a.m. from a man who was driving by and saw the body in the grass.

Shortly before 9 a.m., authorities could be seen removing the body from the area. Investigators was apparently sweeping the scene with a metal detector. One investigator could be seen removing sod from the ground.

Police said early Tuesday evening that they had no leads and no suspects in the case.

Residents said crime was relatively rare in the neighborhood. Some said it’s “disturbing” to have something like this happen here.

“We love the neighborhood. We’ve never felt unsafe,” said one woman who asked not to be identified.

Meanwhile, authorities said they do not believe there is an immediate danger to the public nor do they believe the victim has any affiliation with Texas Christian University or the neighborhood where her body was found.

Fort Worth police spokesman Jimmy Pollozani said the investigation is ongoing.

The last homicide in the neighborhood was in Dec. 30, 2016 when well-known businesswoman Nicole “Nikki” Blahitka, 49, was fatally shot in her in her home in the 3600 block of Middlewood Drive.

Her boyfriend, Joshua Henry, 30, was arrested a few days later. Henry was shot to death in February 2017 by Grand Prairie police officers who responded to a call of man inside a home in the 400 block of East Cober Drive destroying the property.
