Couple allegedly robbed hotels on NW Side, smashed into police cruiser

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A man and a woman were arrested early Tuesday after they allegedly went on a “mini crime spree” on the Northwest Side involving three hotel robberies and a police chase that ended with a head on crash.

Police have identified the duo as Zachary Kentish, 21, and 22-year-old Gabriela Richie, who are now facing charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault on a public servant and evading arrest.

The pair reportedly denied involvement in the alleged robberies as they were escorted to jail in front of reporters.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” said Richie.

Police said the suspects started robbing the series of hotels along Interstate 10 around 2:30 a.m., moving in quick succession between each hit.

San Antonio police said the suspects first robbed a Holiday Inn in the 4800 block Woodstone Drive, moved to another nearby hotel and finally robbed a La Quinta on Utex Boulevard around 5:30 a.m.

Police said Kentish and Richie fled in a blue sedan after each robbery. Kentish allegedly brandished a gun.

“It was like a mini crime spree,” said Sgt. Steve Bratina.

A San Antonio police officer reportedly spotted the blue sedan around 5:45 a.m. and attempted a traffic stop. Kentish and Richie allegedly fled and the officer initiated a chase.

Police said the chase reportedly went through neighborhoods in the area of Vance Jackson Boulevard and De Zavala Road until the suspects started driving in the wrong lanes.

Authorities said the suspects hit one pursuing officer and then smashed head-on into another, effectively ending the chase.
