2 men accused of firing at Cleveland police

May 14th, 2018 - Comments »

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Authorities said two men allegedly fired dozens of shots at four Cleveland police officers who responded to a shooting a half-hour earlier at a home.

The alleged gunfire is linked to a series of shootings early May in Hough neighborhood where nine houses were allegedly shot up, including one where a 10-year-old boy was critically injured.

Devaughn Taylor Jr., 18, and Leslie Robinson, 27, are both charged with felonious assault against police officers, a first-degree felony.

Robinson is not in police custody and a warrant was issued Saturday for his arrest.

U.S. Marshals reportedly arrested Taylor on Friday morning on charges related to an April 2 shooting in Hough. The two men hurt in that shooting are the uncles of the 10-year-old boy shot on May 2.

Taylor and Robinson allegedly took part in on April 14 shooting at a home in the 7500 block of Decker Avenue where they fired about 10 gunshots into the home, in what police called ”gang activity.”

Police said they allegedly fired at least a dozen shots from a van in the drive-by shooting. The bullets ripped through the home, where a 69-year-old woman was inside with her grandchildren.

Police said two men outside the home reportedly ducked for cover and several bullets hit cars parked on the street. No one was hurt.

Four Cleveland police officers reportedly went to the home and were interviewing witnesses when the same van came back and someone in the van fired several more shots at the home.

The officers and the residents dove for cover against cars and the home, police said. No one was injured in the follow-up shooting.

The shooting is one of several that Cleveland police have linked to a series of shootings in the Hough neighborhood.
