Akron brothers charged in attempted armed robbery

April 28th, 2018 - Comments Off

AKRON, Ohio — Two Akron brothers are charged after they allegedly tried to take a man’s wallet and shoes at gunpoint Wednesday in the city’s Middlebury neighborhood.

Police said a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy are charged with aggravated robbery in the incident that occurred about noon on South Arlington Street at East Exchange Street.

The younger boy is also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and marijuana possession.

The police report states a 25-year-old Akron man was walking near the intersection when one of the boys allegedly flashed a gun at him and said “how about them shoes and jewelry.”

The man reportedly started to walk away, and the boys pointed the gun at him and threatened to kill him. The man kept walking and called 911.

An Akron police officer reportedly spotted the 13-year-old boy walking on South Arlington Street near Ackley Street. The boy reportedly ran away and tossed a revolver on the ground on Miles Avenue.

Officers reportedly caught the boy outside a house on South Arlington Street and found his 15-year-old brother at the same home.

The 25-year-old man was able to identify the boys as the alleged robbers. Both brothers told police they were involved with an argument with the man.

The boys reportedly admitted the 13-year-old boy flashed a gun, but they denied trying to rob the man.

The report says the 13-year-old boy was also found in possession of roughly 10 grams of marijuana. Both were taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
