Armed robbery led to SWAT standoff in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Authorities are searching for the fifth person allegedly involved in the armed robbery of a San Antonio pawn shop which led to an hours-long SWAT standoff.

Police reportedly surrounded a Southeast Side home Friday morning after a group allegedly robbed a Cash America Pawn in the 6800 block of West Military Drive the previous night.

San Antonio police reportedly arrested four suspects in the robbery and they believed one other suspect was in the house.

Federal officials said Daniel Ray Rodriguez, 40, Daniel Ray Rodriguez Jr., 22, Xavier Noel Musquiz, 24, and Cesar Rodriguez, 36, were arrested Friday morning for their alleged involvement in the robbery.

Authorities are looking for Martin Ramirez Hernandez, 22.

Each suspect has been charged with robbery affecting interstate commerce. Federal officials said the suspects  are believed to have robbed the store at gunpoint.

Federal officials said the suspects reportedly stole roughly 30 firearms, several hundred pieces of jewelry and an undetermined amount of money from the pawn shop.

Police believed the suspects were at a home on the corner of South New Braunfels Avenue and Monticello where they found a vehicle matching a description of the suspects’ car nearby.

Several people left the home early Friday and were detained in traffic stops. But authorities believed others remained inside the home, so they called in a SWAT team around 2:30 a.m.

An hours-long standoff ensued. One final suspect left the home around 7:30 a.m. and was arrested, but authorities had been told one more suspect remained inside.

Around 9 a.m., SWAT officers began firing tear gas canisters inside the home. Soon after, they entered and discovered no one was inside.

“The fifth one, we were told, went into this house up the street,” McManus said, “but he either didn’t or left before we were able to set up.”

McManus was confident police would capture the remaining suspect soon. He is facing at least one charge of aggravated robbery.
