HOUSTON, Texas – Authorities in Houston are looking for a suspect in an alleged sexual assault that reportedly occurred late last week near the University of Houston campus underneath a freeway bridge.

Police said the 21-year-old UH student was walking to campus from an off-campus location on March 2 the student was approached by a male subject.

The suspect reportedly led her to a nearby outdoor location and sexually assaulted her.

Police said the assault allegedly happened on Cullen Boulevard under the I-45 bridge between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. The woman reported the incident on Monday.

Houston police are investigating the case. Police said a possible suspect has been identified.

The suspect is described as a 50-year-old white man, 5’11″, 140 to 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

In a separate sex assault case, a former sergeant with Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Silvia Trevino’s office was arrested for alleged sex assault.

Court documents said Edward Mata is accused of raping an acquaintance.
Investigators said the two began texting each other in October 2017 and agreed to hang out at the Regency Inn and Suites off Clinton Drive in Galena Park on Oct. 29.

The woman reportedly told the Harris County Sheriff’s Office that Mata showed up and they started talking on the couch.

The woman reportedly told detectives she could smell alcohol on Mata’s breath. She then said Mata became aggressive and pulled her hair.

Document states Mata pinned her down, stripped her clothing off, and raped her.  When she yelled out “you are hurting me” and “stop,” investigators said Mata responded with “you will be OK.”

After the sex, Mata allegedly forced the woman to lay in bed with him naked before he fell asleep. She then fled from the hotel room.

Mata reportedly told investigators the sex was consensual and voluntarily offered his DNA. Court records said a medical exam determined the woman suffered injuries.

Mata was reportedly arrested earlier Tuesday at his home in Katy and is held at Harris County jail.
