Alleged robber caught by Cleveland restaurant workers

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A 22-year-old South Euclid man who robbed a restaurant in Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood was chased down and captured by employees.

Records say Phillip Robinson is may have targeted the same business twice in four days. He is charged with second-degree robbery in the Monday robbery.

Cleveland police said employees at the Local West restaurant on Detroit Avenue near West 74th Street reportedly told them that they were certain Robinson was the person who previously robbed their business.

Court records show there have been no charges filed against Robinson in any other robberies.

The police report says Robinson was arrested about 4 p.m. Monday after he went into Local West and handed a note to a worker that said “Give me the money now and no one die.”

Robinson reportedly had his hand in his waistband, as if indicating he was armed.

The worker then prepared to hand over cash, but two other employees could see that Robinson had no gun and they reportedly told her not to give him money.

Robinson reportedly appeared to be nervous and ran from the shop. Employees ran after him and took him to the ground about a block away in a Burger King parking lot, according to the report.

They pinned him there until police arrived.

A man who employees believe was Robinson allegedly robbed the restaurant around the same time on Friday, a report says.

The man reportedly acted as if he had a gun and demanded cash from the employees by giving them a threatening note. He made off with $260 that day, the report says.

Court records show Robinson appeared for arraignment Wednesday in Cleveland Municipal Court and his bond was set at $25, 000.
