Resident killed, suspect critically injured in South Side home invasion

February 14th, 2018 - Comments Off

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A Tuesday night home invasion on the South Side reportedly left one man killed and another critically wounded.

Police said two suspects, at least one of whom was armed, allegedly broke into a home in the 300 block of Regina Street around 11:45 p.m.

Authorities believe one other suspect waited outside. One of those who broke in allegedly ordered a 50-year-old resident to the ground, and then went into another room where he confronted a second resident.

Police said the suspect and the second resident began to struggle, and a single gunshot was fired.

Authorities said the suspects ran from the home immediately after the gunshot as the second resident chased them.

The 50-year-old later told police he heard several more gunshots from the front yard. Police reportedly found the second resident outside, unresponsive with a gunshot wound.

Eddie Padilla, 32, lay on the ground next to the second resident with a gunshot wound to the neck, officials said. A witness reportedly told police he saw two people flee on foot.

The wounded resident was pronounced dead by paramedics. Padilla was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in stable condition.

Padilla is facing a charge of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit assault. His bond was set at $100,000.

It remains unclear if he is the gunman who killed the resident. Online court records show Padilla has pleaded guilty to four prior drug charges and one burglary charge.

Detectives are investigating the shooting and are still searching for two possible suspects. The incident was the thirteenth fatal shooting in San Antonio this year.
