Cleveland father shot son who defended mom

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland police said a 41-year-old Cleveland man reportedly shot his adult son who defended his mother during a family argument at a West Side apartment building.

Court records show Ronald Foster is charged with felonious assault in the shooting that critically wounded his 24-year-old son, who suffered at least four gunshot wounds.

A MetroHealth spokesman said on Monday that the victim was no longer listed as a patient.

The shooting reportedly occurred about 9 p.m. Saturday in the hallway of an apartment building on Archwood Avenue near Pearl Road in the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood.

The victim’s mother reportedly got into an argument with Foster outside the apartment and her son tried to separate the two when he overheard the commotion while taking out trash.

Another relative reportedly heard the woman say “You’re not going to do anything to my son.”

The son returned inside to the apartment and told his grandmother that Foster was “feeling some type of way,” and that he was not ”going to put his hands on my mom,” the report says.

Foster reportedly followed his son back to the apartment and asked him to step out into the hallway. Witnesses reportedly heard three or four gunshots before the son ducked back into the apartment and collapsed in its entryway.

Friends and family reportedly drove the victim to MetroHealth, where he underwent surgery Saturday night. A warrant was issued for Foster Saturday, but he was not taken into custody.

Records show Foster has prior convictions in Cuyahoga County including felonious assault, possessing a weapon as a felon, attempted robbery, failure to comply, receiving stolen property and child endangering.
