AKRON, Ohio – A 35-year-old man wanted in the shooting death of a 57-year-old Akron man has turned himself in on Friday.

A news release from Akron police states Jerry Dwayne Alford Sr. is facing a charge of aggravated murder in the Nov. 16, 2017 death of Dereke Alexander.

Alford reportedly turned himself in to detectives shortly after noon Friday. He is being held in Summit County Jail and scheduled to appear in Akron Municipal Court on Saturday, the release says.

About 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 16, officers reportedly got a call of a shooting at the back of a convenience store on West Market Street near West North Street.

Investigators reportedly found Alexander with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General where he was later pronounced dead, the release says.

In an unrelated case, Akron police are asking for public’s help in locating a man wanted in a robbery at PNC Bank.

Akron police said Deandre Garrett, 26, of Akron is charged with aggravated robbery in the incident that occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on West Market Street, near North Portage Path.

Garrett remains at large and a warrant was issued Saturday for his arrest.

Bank employees said a man reportedly walked into the bank and gave a teller a note. He allegedly threatened the teller with a gun, but employees did not see one, according to the release.

The man reportedly fled with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen heading south on Marvin Avenue, the release says.

Authorities urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to call Akron police at 330-375-2490; the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-866-4-WANTED; or Summit County Crime Stoppers at 330-434-COPS.
