Woman arrested in alleged stabbing near Austin homeless center

November 28th, 2017 - Comments Off

AUSTIN, Texas — An affidavit filed on Monday states a 24-year-old woman has been arrested for her alleged role in a robbery turned stabbing near the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless on Sunday.

Kenyata Latreece Simmons is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The affidavit said police initially got reports of the stabbing around 1:05 p.m. near Trinity and Eighth streets.

Officers arrived at the scene where they found a man with a stab wound to the back. The man reportedly told them two men and a woman attacked him next to the ARCH.

Investigators watched surveillance footage from HALO cameras posted in the area that captured the incident and saw three people luring the victim into a nearby alleyway, according to the document.

The report states one of the men on the video could be seen thrusting and slashing at the victim with a shiny object. The victim was stabbed in his lower right side but managed to run away, the affidavit said.

Police reportedly spoke with Simmons and one of the men in the video. Simmons reportedly told police that she was there when the men “started play fighting and the victim ran off,” the affidavit said.

Simmons and the other person initially gave fake names during questioning, but both were correctly identified through fingerprints, the document said.

The man is a juvenile and was not identified in the affidavit. Simmons allegedly helped lure the victim into the alleyway.

Simmons was also identified as one of the three people seen in the surveillance video chasing after the victim. She was arrested and held at Travis County jail on a $100,000 bail.

It was unclear Monday whether police have spoken to any other suspects or charges have been filed against the juvenile.
