Man fatally shot during argument at Pleasant Grove apartment

November 12th, 2017 - Comments Off

DALLAS, Texas – Dallas police say a 21-year-old was fatally shot  during an argument with another man early Sunday at a Pleasant Grove apartment.

Police said the argument reportedly escalated about 5 a.m. at El Rancho Apartments in the 9900 block of Bruton Road where the suspect allegedly pulled a gun and shot the victim.

The gunman reportedly fled and police have not provided a description of him. Detectives have interviewed witnesses and have been looking into whether there is video of the shooting.

In an unrelated incident, police said a Dallas SWAT officer accidentally shot himself in the leg during a drug raid in east Oak Cliff Saturday morning.

The officer, a 10-year veteran of the SWAT unit, and several other officers were executing a narcotics search warrant about 11:20 a.m. at an apartment in the 3800 block of Bonnie View Road, near Illinois Avenue and Overton Road.

Assistant Chief of Police Gary Tittle said the officer’s rifle sling reportedly got caught on something in the apartment. The officer was trying to pull it free when the rifle discharged into his calf.

A SWAT doctor then took the wounded officer to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The officer’s name was not released.

Officers reportedly found drugs and several firearms during the search. Four adults and two juveniles were also taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Tittle said the narcotics warrant was part of a crime initiative in the area and that Dallas police will be doing these initiatives in different areas of the city as needed.
