Teen critically shot at Cleveland park

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Authorities said a 16-year-old boy remains in critical condition Friday after suffering gunshot wounds at a Cleveland park.

The teenager was shot in the arm and abdomen about 3 a.m. at Topeka Park off Aspinwall Avenue in the city’s South Collinwood neighborhood.

According to a Cleveland police report, a security guard was in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store when he heard eight or 10 gunshots.

The guard reportedly saw two males making their way toward him a few minutes later. The 16-year-old was bleeding heavily and appeared as if he had several gunshot wounds to his torso, the report says.

The second male reportedly approached the guard and identified himself as the shooting victim’s brother. The report says he yelled for help before walking toward St. Clair Avenue, leaving his brother with the guard.

Paramedics reportedly took the boy to University Hospitals where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Officers found a blood trail outside the convenience store and traced it back to the playground at Topeka Park, according to the report.

Cleveland police spokesman Det. Reginald Lanton said detectives continue to investigate the shooting, but no charges have been filed.

In a separate shooting Friday, police said a 25-year-old man was shot on the East Side.

Cleveland police said the victim, whose name was not immediately released, was shot twice in the abdomen about 9 p.m. in the 7100 block of Lawnview Avenue in Hough neighborhood.

Police did not say what led up to the shooting. They are investigating.
