SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A 29-year-old man was reportedly arrested Tuesday in the fatal stabbing of a woman last month on the Northwest Side where in he allegedly told a witness “she had to die.”

Carlos Salazar now faces a murder charge in the death of Cinthia Nohemi Vargas Sanchez, a 29-year-old mother of two. Salazar remains in the Bexar County Jail.

His affidavit said Salazar stabbed Sanchez in the chest and abdomen around 9:45 a.m. on April 2 at her home in the 1900 block of Santa Anna Street while her two children were inside.

Paramedics reportedly told police she had numerous stab wounds and a large laceration “so deep that it severed tendons.”

Sanchez also had several lacerations on her hands, indicating she was trying to shield herself from the attacker. She was transported to University Hospital, where she later died.

One of Sanchez’s children, a 7-year-old girl, was found at the scene covered in her mother’s blood. The girl told police she had seen the two fighting before the stabbing.

Police reportedly tracked down a witness on whose property Salazar lived. The witness told police that on the day of the stabbing, Salazar had asked him to drive him to a store so he could purchase tools for work.

After visiting the store, Salazar allegedly had the witness take him to his “job site,” which was a few blocks away from Sanchez’s house. He reportedly told the witness to wait while he went to see if he was needed for work.

Salazar returned forty minutes later, allegedly covered in blood. Salazar told the witness “She had to die,” the affidavit.

As they left the scene, Salazar reportedly tossed a knife, screwdriver and bloody clothes from the moving vehicle.

A warrant was obtained for Salazar’s arrest on a charge of murder. He was picked up Tuesday and booked into jail.
