Round Rock man allegedly ‘intended to shoot officers’

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Round Rock police reportedly arrested a 35-year-old man who told them he intended to shoot them Sunday.

James Brown was charged with two counts of assault on a public servant, public intoxication and possession of marijuana.

An arrest affidavit said Brown’s father called police at 6:04 p.m. Sunday asking them to arrest his son because he believed his son was going to kill him.

The affidavit said police knew Brown had a shotgun but did not know if he was armed when officers arrived outside a house in the 600 block of Sweetgum Lane.

The affidavit said officers found Brown standing in the front yard and demanding for them to use their Tasers on him.

Brown reportedly told the officers he had been armed with a shotgun with at least 55 rounds and “intended on shooting responding officers.”

The affidavit said “he advised that he only put it down at the urging of his mother.” It said Brown then got more upset as more officers arrived and began to “sway side to side taking an attack posture” toward two police officers.

Brown said he had no weapons and then lowered himself and allegedly charged at one officer, who struck Brown with his elbow while another office tried to tackle Brown, according to the affidavit.

Police reportedly handcuffed Brown a short time later. Brown then told the first responding officer that “he could have murdered him and only put the gun down at the urging of his mother who he greatly respects.”

Police entered the home where Brown lived with his parents and found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and a bandolier with 55 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition in Brown’s room, the affidavit said.

Brown reportedly posted bond on $25,250 bail but it was unclear Tuesday whether he had been released yet from the Williamson County Jail.
