EUCLID, Ohio – The 23-year-old Cleveland man was shot and killed Monday morning by a Euclid police officer.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office reportedly confirmed that Luke O. Stewart died at Euclid Hospital after being shot about 7 a.m.
Euclid police said Stewart was shot while officers were investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of South Lakeshore Boulevard and East 215thStreet.
Euclid police have not released details about what led up to the shooting. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
Officials have not also said if Stewart was armed when he was shot by the officer, who has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is departmental policy.
A Euclid police cruiser was seen Monday morning parked by a black Honda near Milton Avenue and East 222nd Street, one block away from the police station. The Honda’s broken driver’s side window was covered with cardboard before it was towed.
In an unrelated incident, a 55-year-old Euclid man is accused of choking his girlfriend unconscious outside a home on Cleveland’s Corlett neighborhood.
Sebastian Howard is charged with first-degree kidnapping and second-degree felonious assault. He was charged Saturday by way of warrant and he remains at large.
The woman told police that the alleged attack happened late Thursday or early Friday when she and Howard were at her sister’s house near East 131st Street and Benwood Avenue.
Police said it was the woman’s birthday. The two were in front of the house when Howard allegedly slapped and punched the 55-year-old woman and then choked her until she passed out.
The woman told police that she remembered yelling for help as she blacked out, but that no one came to her aid. The woman suffered a broken bone around her eye. She was later treated at University Hospitals.
