ARLINGTON, Texas — A 17-year-old was fatally shot early Sunday in what Arlington police investigate as a vehicle burglary interrupted by the homeowner.
Officers responded to a call of a shooting at about 3 a.m. in the 3700 block of French Wood Drive in west Arlington where police found the teen wounded in the street.
The teen died after being taken to the hospital. The name of the teen had not been released pending notification of relatives.
No arrests had been made late Sunday. Police said a second person fled the scene before officers arrived.
Police released few other details but said the case would be forwarded to the Tarrant County district attorney’s office for review.
A woman who answered the door Sunday afternoon at the home where the shooting took place declined to give details.
A neighbor across the street and a few houses down reportedly cried as she described what she saw after hearing the shots fired.
She reportedly went outside when she saw the lights from police vehicles and saw emergency personnel doing chest compressions on a teen who at first she thought was her son.
She said the teen was lying in the middle of the street, about 20 feet from her car, which was damaged in two places by ricochets from at least one bullet.
Another neighbor, Amber Wallace, said she also heard the shots, which awakened her daughter.
She said the people who live at the shooter’s home own a limousine service and usually have several cars parked outside.
Wallace, who has lived in the neighborhood for about six years, said she has not heard of any car burglaries in the area but added that she keeps her car in the garage.
