Columbus Division of Police Sergeant Brooke Wilson said that the driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck entered a westbound lane driving east that cause the crash, according to the reports.
Other news media outlet reported that the man who died in the accident was driving a jeep and was struck by the Toyota Tundra near 3rd Street at around 3:30 early Saturday morning.
Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak identified the victim as sixty-one-year-old Vincent Canzani, a resident from Gahanna. The accident-investigators said that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck was not immediately identified. It was reported that the driver was transported to the Grant Medical Center. Hospital officials say that he is in a critical condition.
Other news media outlet reported that there were four passenger vehicles that were involved in the crash and a semi. It was also indicated in a report that one of the passenger vehicles flipped in the air.
Reports also indicated that another vehicle that was involved in the crash was a minivan. There were two persons inside the van who were women. They were not seriously injured.
Their names were not immediately given.
The area between I-71 and North 3rd Street were closed from the commuters by the law enforcement officials as they continue their investigations, according to the reports.
Investigators are still trying to determine where the truck entered the freeway. It was not also clear whether drugs and alcohol are factors in the fatal crash.
