GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio– The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that transpired early Sunday morning where two individuals were shot and killed outside an apartment complex.
Reports say that one of the victims was celebrating his 31st birthday when the incident took place. The 9-1-1 call that the authorities received was from an unknown individual reporting that shots were fired at an apartment in the Coventry Estates near Cambridge.
Guernsey County Sheriff deputies responded to the scene at around 2:50 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered two victims with gunshot wounds. The victims were a white male and a black male.
The first victim who had just celebrated his 31st birthday was identified as Chris Morrison. He is a white male and was discovered by the deputies in the front yard of the apartment.
The second victim was a black male who is identified as 25-year-old Justain Melson. He was still alive when the detectives discovered him outside the apartment in the backyard. He was shot multiple times. He was transported by the paramedics to Southeast Ohio Regional Medical Center where he later died, according to Sgt. Sam Williams.
The Stark County Coroner‘s office will be the one to perform an autopsy to the bodies of the two homicide victims to determine the official cause of death.
The detectives said that they have located the person who was renting the apartment where the double homicide took place and the girlfriend of one of the victims. They said that they are interviewing the two individuals for information that will shed light to the two fatal shootings.
The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office is now asking for the public’s help for any information that will lead to the identification and the arrest of the shooters.
