On an early Easter Sunday morning at about 3:30 a.m., the Columbus police officers were called to respond to the Mount Carmel Medical Center East after a man and his wife told the employees that he had shot someone, according to the police reports.
Once on the scene, the man told the police that he shot a man inside his ex-wife’s home at the Preston Pointe Apartments. Reports say that the victim is an acquaintance of the man’s former wife.
The Columbus police detectives later determined that the fatal shooting incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, according to the reports.
The shooter whom the Columbus Police identified as 41-year-old Kevin L. Johnson told the officers where they can find the body of the fatally shot victim.
Once there, the Columbus police officers discovered a 30-year-old man who was identified as Alonzo Green. He had a gunshot wound to his stomach.
The Columbus police detectives say that Alonzo Green was in a relationship with the suspect’s former wife that triggered the whole incident, according to the reports.
Johnson was treated at the Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He will be charged with murder.
The former wife of Johnson was released because detectives determined that she was not a suspect. She was not reported injured when the incident broke out. Her name was not released by the Columbus police.
The fatal shooting is still under investigation. This is the twenty-first homicide case of the city of Columbus. There were already three homicide cases this month of April.
