SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Officials said a 21-year-old man accused of exchanging gunfire with people inside an apartment while he allegedly tried to rob them was arrested last week in El Paso.
Reese Pearis is being held in the El Paso County Jail without bail. He faces an aggravated robbery charge out of Bexar County and two charges — evading arrest and possession of marijuana — out of Guadalupe County, records show.
According to the news release, Pearis was arrested at a home in El Paso without incident Thursday and is awaiting extradition to San Antonio.
The U.S. Marshals’ Lone Star Fugitive Task Force said Pearis was wanted in connection with a home invasion and robbery that took place at an apartment complex last Monday. Pearis and two others reportedly broke into an apartment, a news release states, and Pearis exchanged gunfire with the apartment’s occupants.
He fled the scene and the task force learned Pearis may have headed to El Paso. Further details on the initial aggravated robbery were not immediately available.
In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man accused of robbing a Sonic car hop at knifepoint following argument over a suspected counterfeit $100 bill he tried to pay with, was arrested Friday night.
Albert Anthony Almaguer was charged with aggravated robbery and released on a $30,000 bond.
Police said Almaguer ordered a root beer float from the drive-in restaurant in the 1600 block of General McMullen Drive around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, paid with a $100 bill, and told the car hop to keep $3 as a tip.
As the car hop walked away, Almaguer shouted a request to exchange a $20 bill for two $10 bills. The car hop then noticed the $100 bill seemed phony, so Almaguer pocketed that bill and pulled out another one but refused to hand it over.
Police said Almaguer then pulled a knife, threatened to stab the car hop, and drove off. He was arrested around 9:15 p.m. the next day.
