Columbus Police Investigates City’s 4th Homicide Of 2012

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The law enforcement officials in Columbus say that a man was shot and killed in a Columbus home early Tuesday afternoon in an apparent home invasion incident, according to the reports.

The Columbus police and the medic personnel were called to respond to  the 700 block of Windy Hill Lane after a teenager called 9-1-1 emergency reporting of a man who tried to force his way inside the residence and a shooting incident.

The reports say that the home invasion took place at around 1:45 early Tuesday afternoon. The teenager told the police that a man tried to force his way into the front door.

Two male teenagers went to check the front door and an altercation ensued between the two juveniles and the suspect.  One of the male juveniles was able to produce a gun and discharged the gun against the alleged home intruder, according to the reports.

When the Columbus Police and the medic personnel arrived at the scene, they found an adult male lying in the yard with a gunshot wound, according to the Columbus police.

The alleged home intruder who was identified by the Columbus police as fifty-year-old Ricky B. Duke was transported by the medic personnel to the Doctor’s hospital where he was pronounced dead moments after he arrived, according to the hospital officials.

The Columbus Police detectives say that it was not clear whether the alleged home intruder was inside the house or outside the house when he was fatally shot.

The male juvenile who shot and killed the man was not identified. It was not clear whether he will be charged or be taken into custody because of the incident.

There were no other injuries in connection with the shooting incident. The incident is still under investigation. Any helpful information is welcomed by the Columbus Police Department.
