SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Report states that police arrested two brothers Sunday whom one of them had been suspected as a person of interest in a triple-homicide and house fire on the Northeast Side last month.
Baron Ochoa, 36, was charged with two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a young child. Police said there were two female victims. His brother, Conrad Ochoa, 31, was arrested on charges of promotion of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Police Sgt. Chris Benavides declined to say if either was a suspect in the capital murder case stemming from the deaths of Rebecca “Veggie” Gonzales, 29, her daughter Samvastion “Sammy” Ochoa, 10, and their roommate, Pamela Susan Wenske, 41.
However, he said, both men were “initially questioned after the deaths and are still being investigated” in connection with that incident. Bexar County medical examiner’s office said the three females were stabbed to death early Sept. 14 and their bodies were found in the burnt home they had rented in the 200 block of Karen Lane.
Police initially identified Conrad Ochoa as a person of interest in the capital murder case because of his history of conflict with Gonzales. He was the father of Sammy Ochoa, and fought with Gonzales over custody issues in a series of court filings that started in 2009. Court documents state Conrad Ochoa accused Gonzales of drug use and failing to pay court-ordered child support.
In an earlier accusation in the court file, Gonzales had accused Baron Ochoa, the girl’s uncle, of biting the girl. The battle escalated in August, when Gonzales accused Conrad Ochoa of sexually assaulting his daughter at least once every time she had visited him, starting last fall and most recently July 23, police have said. She repeated the sex assault accusation in court documents seeking a protective order against him that month.
A temporary protective order was then issued Aug. 17. Investigators with Child Protective Services also had been looking into the accusations, an agency spokeswoman has said. Gonzales had also accused Conrad Ochoa of slashing her tires in January. After he was questioned the day after the fire, a police spokesman said he was not a suspect in the killings “at this time.”
A neighbor who first reported the fire in a 911 call said he alerted neighbors but saw nobody in the vicinity of the house when he first arrived. The neighborhood is just north of Terrell Hills. Friends and family identified the mother while the medical examiner’s office has confirmed the identities of Samvastion and Wenske.
“After a lengthy investigation, investigators were able to get certain pieces of the puzzle for the arrest of the brothers,” Benavides said. He added that police “were aware of sexual assault allegations for some time” and that “during the course of the investigation, we were able to uncover electronic photos of some victims.”
“Both get booked tonight, and if there are any other victims, we definitely want to put them behind bars for any other offenses,” Benavides said.
